Thame & Oxfordshire County Canine Society

General Open Show

Thursday 21st September 2017

Thank you to the Officers & Committee for the invitation for me to judge at your friendly and well run show. Thank you also to the exhibitors for their entries and accepting my decisions so sportingly. It was a pleasure to have judged what was an excellent quality entry.

Puppy - 5 Entries

1st. Crisp's Challowdown Loopy Lou with Genavieve - 10 month old blue roan bitch with good head proportions & soft expression, lovely dark tight eye, pleasing front assembly, correct lay of shoulder, good spring of rib for her age, short in loin, rounded rear quarters with good bend of stifle. Cobby bitch with plenty of substance all through. Very nicely presented for her age she gave a pleasing picture both stacked and on the move although carrying a little excess weight for my preference. I was delighted to award her BP and thrilled to hear she later took Gundog Puppy Group 2. Well done!

2nd. Dicker's Dykere Meant to Be - 11 month old b/w pretty bitch built on finer lines to 1. Stylish mover like her sire, drives out well on the move, presented in lovely condition.

Special Yearling - 6 Entries (4 abs)

1st. Parker's Weyhill Wish List - one I have admired on many occasions from ringside so was delighted to be given the opportunity to go over her and she certainly did not disappoint. Black bitch with beautiful feminine head & soft melting expression, lovely dark eye, good front with plenty of heartroom, strong neck into nicely laid shoulders, barrel ribs, strong firm topline which she held both stacked & on the move, short in loin, pleasing bend of stifle and firm rear well angulated quarters which she uses to full advantage to drive around the ring, short below hocks, tight neat feet and stands four square on well boned legs. Immaculately presented, her coat was positively gleaming and a credit to her owners. I had no hesitation in awarding her BOB. This little lady continued to show her socks off to take Gundog Group 1 - congratulations!

2nd.   Moutrey's Sunzo Songstar - super golden bitch built on similar lines to 1, unfortunate to meet 1 on such top form. Well presented and handled, this girl moves out well and is in good firm condition all through.

2nd.   Hillary's Sheigra Mr Snuggles at Edasiy - built on bigger lines to 1 this boy has much to like, attractive head and good substance all through. Well presented and handled.

Open Bitch - 4 Entries (3 abs)

The Royal Cheshire County Show

General Open Show

Tuesday 20th June 2017

My thanks to the Officers and committee for my invitation to judge at their well run show. A baking hot day both dogs and exhibitors coped extremely well with the high temperatures. As a result of the very hot weather there were many absentees which is completely understandable. My thanks also to my two stewards, Neil Goodwin and Jenny Mason, for keeping the ring running smoothly and efficiently. I was delighted with all my principal winners. Thank you to all exhibitors for allowing me the privilege to judge your dogs and for accepting my decisions with good grace.

Devon & Cornwall Cocker Spaniel Club

Breed Open Show

Saturday 15th April 2017

The Devon & Cornwall Cocker Spaniel Club held a Breed Open Show on Saturday 15th April 2017. Thank you to the Officers & Committee for the kind invitation for me to judge your club show and for the wonderful hospitality I enjoyed during the day. I would also like to thank my very efficient stewards who kept the ring running beautifully. Thank you to the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over their dogs and accepting my decisions sportingly. All exhibits had good temperaments and were presented in good clean condition. A little excess weight on some & lack of muscletone in others affected toplines and movement. Some dogs were a little too proud of their tails and this really should be watched for future breeding plans. I had some quality dogs who all pushed hard for top honours. I was delighted with my final line up.

 Waverley Gundog Association Open Show

 - Sunday 14th February 2016

Waverley Gundog Association held an Open Gundog Show where I was invited to judge Cocker Spaniel Bitches. I would like to thank the Committee for their hospitality, my stewards, Sue & Sally, for keeping the ring running smoothly and the exhibitors for their entries and accepting my decisions sportingly. From a lovely entry of bitches I was pleased with all my class winners. Some bitches were carrying too much weight which affects their outline and movement and lack of muscletone was a common theme unfortunately.

Puppy Bitch

1st - Craig's Della Fiumana Time To Rock 9 (Imp Cro) - Nearly 12 months old, pretty headed b/r bitch with dark eye and tight rims, lovely reach of neck and good shoulder placement. Good spring of ribs for her age, short loin, pleasing bend of stifle. Happy girl on the move, nicely presented. Would like to see less weight to improve her overall picture.

2nd - Fairbairn's Carmelfair Shooting Star - 7 months b/r & tan bitch. Raw baby with lots of maturing to do, good front and rear assembly, pleasing head, enjoying her day out.

Junior Bitch

1st - Fairbairn's Misperros Silver Lining at Carmelfair - 15 month old b/r bitch, feminine head with melting expression, lovely spring of ribs and short loin, short below hocks, pleasing angles when stacked and on the move. Happy mover and well presented.

2nd - Ewan's Craigdean Pandora - Beautiful girl just in to junior who caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Everything in the right place, not overdone, and presentation top drawer. However, carrying far too much weight for my taste and her lethargic movement cost her a higher place today.

Graduate Bitch

1st - Adam's Whinburn Abracadabra - black bitch which has everything I was hoping to find. Pretty feminine head, lovely neck and shoulders, short cobby body with tight neat feet, super front and rear assembly, level firm topline which she holds both stacked and on the move, strong rear quarters powered her around the ring with her lashing tail and happy disposition. Shown in hard condition which was lacking in many other exhibits today and is so important for good movement. An elegant but workmanlike bitch who you are left in no doubt could do a days work in the field and some. Sufficient coat and presented in gleaming condition. I loved her! Delighted to award her Best Bitch

2nd - MacLean's Tipperline Traviata - O/r bitch with pleasing head, melting expression and correct pigmentation for her colour, good spring of ribs, short in loin and good rear angulation. Well presented & handled.

Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders, neat feet, level firm topline and good rear angulation. Happy mover who moved true for and aft. Devon County Show - Thursday 17th May 2012

L/R Manchela Wild Willow - Withiflor Blulaw

Thank you to all exhibitors for their entries and affording me the honour to go over your dogs.

My critique for 1st & 2nd places as follows:-

My first judging appointment and I was thrilled with the
quality entry. I was disappointed though with some exhibits having heavily tartared teeth, long toe nails and lack of muscle tone. There were two incorrect bites.

Puppy (4/1 abs)

1st Ellison's Withiflor Blulaw - Handsome b/r dog with soft expression, lovely neck into well placed shoulders, good return to upper arm, ample bone to legs and nicely padded feet, good spring of rib and short loin. Firm angulated rear quarters with neat hocks used to full advantage to drive around the ring. Presentation first class as is usual from this kennel. Simply loved this boy! BP

2nd Baines & Gray's Sanmargra's Fifth Element - Pretty feminine headed b/r bitch, with tight dark eye. Good shoulders into firm level topline which she held nicely on the move. Alert at all times, handled and presented well.

1st Hutching's Beechtops Double Take - 15 month old elegant black bitch with the most stunning head & gentle expression. Good shoulders lead into a lovely short cobby body with good spring of rib, nicely angulated rear quarters and short hocks. Looked a picture stacked and on the move, presentation a credit to the handler.

2nd Webb's Caenriver Topsy Turvy - An 11 month old sweet headed blue bitch. Good returnto upper arm, good topline and nice rear angulation. Longer cast than 1 and not as settled on the move. In good coat.

1st Kew & Master's Manchela Secret Song -Lovely black bitch presented beautifully. Sweetest of heads with correct eye colour and ear set.
